| In The City finalists and Pastonbury-featured Dayglo Superstars released their debut single, a numbered limited-edition 7" coloured vinyl 45 called "This Girl's On Fire!"/"This Girl's Life" on Versechorusverse Records in May 2002. John Peel played "This Girl's On Fire" several times on his BBC Radio 1 and World Service programmes; he included it in his May Record Box of "must buys". Steve Lamacq, on the other hand, playlisted "This Girl's Life" on his Radio 1 "Evening Session". The next release is "Action Hero", on a split single with Seedling, out on 24th March 2003. DAYGLO SUPERSTARS: WHO? Kitty, guitar and vocals. Ammi, bass. G, guitar. James, drums. WHERE? Archway, North London. WHAT? Simultaneously graceful and melodic, discordant and visceral, angry and funny and melancholic and joyous songs that capture the viscous, vicious, vivid spirit of life and what it’s like for a girl in the 21st century. Blazing a trail that starts with the Stooges and rocks its way through Patti Smith, the Pixies, Elastica to the White Stripes, here comes the next great rock and roll band! WHY? Because they can - and because they have to. Dayglo Superstars want to bring a bit of spark, passion, and unexpectedness back into an increasingly commodified music biz. Plus, isn’t it about time the industry and the media started to recognise the increasing superiority of the female-led bands around right now? WHEN? Dayglo Superstars played The Glass Shrimp Club at The Buffalo Bar, London on 5th September. There's a good photo of the gig at Rattail.net. On the previous night the band performed live on Resonance FM. Dayglo Superstars will be gigging in England and Holland this Spring to support their split single with Seedling, release date 24th March 2003. Contact: +44 (0)207 281 8992 - chezkitty@hotmail.com |
