No woman is an island, and so....Helene, the band: Graham Gargiulo (guitars, vocals). Continuing as Helene's songwriting partner, post-Barefoot Contessa, Graham also provides his signature guitar sounds to great effect on "Postcard". Less "signature" - in fact quite a new development - is his presence as co-vocalist on two tracks: "Peanuts" and "Death Rattle". Ian Carter (guitars). Ian is responsible for all the slide guitar on the album, and also....anything that sounds like an aeroplane, a garbage-crusher, the sound of arrows thudding into their targets one after another - anything like that, involves Ian and a guitar. What can you say? He's good. Annemarie Newman (bass). James Corner (drums). Annemarie and James are basically shy people, so we won't say too much about them for fear of making them blush. (But they are great.) And finally, Owen Turner (keys, glockenspiel, mellotron, trumpets, etc.) Owen is not only responsible for the brilliant production on "Postcard", he also proves that he is annoyingly talented on any instrument you care to mention by playing most of them on it. Taking time out from his role as guitarist (see, another one!) in Norfolk's premier psych pop group Magoo (the rest of whom were drafted in to be the choir on "Where do you go to when you disappear?"), he added all the sparkling finishing touches to the album. Postcard is available from Amazon, Tower and all good record stores. |
