CAPDOWN19th May 2002It was my good fortune to chance upon these guys a couple of years ago supporting a friend's band in Highbury & Islington. Back then I realized Capdown were better than the main act and quietly bought the EP. I kept my opinions to myself for fear of my massive ginger drummer friend. After all he got me in for free. Two years on I wondered what they'd be like. The venue was full and a liquid barbecue earlier in the day meant I was in the right mood, for ska that is. Ska has been having a resurgence for quite a while now and many punk bands have been injecting a heavy dose of musical plagiarism to keep up with the times, or not, depending on how you look at it. Capdown are no different, but few can maintain and mix the energy of ska and hardcore to pull it off so convincingly. Sprinkle that with a touch of metal tongue-in-cheek and Capdown wear the 'Ska Core' label very well. Peterborough hosts Capdown often, so if you like your music authentic and in a very British way...
