LLAMA FARMERS + VELOSONIC

6th May 2000
The Llama Farmers, along with bands such as Seafood and Bellatrix, have now graced the stage at the ever growing Park in our fair city of Peterborough. It wasn't surprising then when a tightly packed audience were there to see them in action. I spoke to the band before the madness and moshing took place, to find out what they've been up to and how the smell of success has affected them.

The Llama Farmers entered the stage at about 10.15pm on the newly claimed Saturday night slot at The Park, after a solid support spot from Velosonic. The venue was the busiest I'd seen it for a while and people were buzzing with anticipation.

The opening number couldn't have gone down much better. The front half of the crowd were suddenly brought alive by the Llama Farmers' sound and were soon throwing themselves onto one another in thorough excitement. Songs old and new were played with equal enthusiasm, however it does appear that the Farmers have chilled out somewhat in their old age. Mind you this is not a bad thing if current single "Same Song" is anything to go by.

First time the Llamas have been to Peterborough, here on a short mini-tour after recent single "Same Song"/"Movie" and to preview some songs which will feature on their new album.

Velosonic were the support. Not much interest was paid to their bland style of new Manics rock. I didn't think their songs were that hot, with a lack of any good choruses to get you into it.

On the other hand, the Llama Farmers were great, kicking off with "Get The Keys And Go". Tonight saw a mixed set of new songs and stuff off their debut album Dead Letter Chorus. New tracks like "Same Song" and "Movie" sounded really good, and the new album looks promising, but it was the older stuff like "Jessica", "Big Wheels", "Always Echoes" and "Pornaco" that drew the best response from the crowd.

A top night from one of the better of this country's grunge/punk pop groups.
