THE SUFFRAJETS

14th November 2002
Unlike many of their male equivalents, all girl four piece The Suffrajets who played Club With No Name at The Park last week show that they’ve definitely got more balls when they take to the stage. Their style of music includes Pop, Grunge, Rock and Punk while still maintaining their own sound and have impressed people such as Dan Sprigg of Lost Prophets fame who has remixed some of their tracks and Metallica’s Jason Newstead who will be producing four of their tracks in the New Year.

The Suffrajets’ upward climb has however been marred by difficulties; earlier this year driving back from a gig their tour bus was written off in a nasty road accident. Their bassist Charlie who still suffers badly from the accident had to leave the band as a result and has now been replaced by new girls Sam and Shelly who made their Peterborough debut on Thursday to rapturous applause.

Their drummer Gemma comes across (and please pardon me for this cliché) as the illegitimate offspring of Keith Moon and Animal from the Muppets while Lead singer/ Guitarist Alex definitely performs her own stunts. A good starter if you’ve never seen The Suffrajets is their excellent EP Hold Those Eyes which contains the title track (available as a preview from their website) which sounds like L7 meeting head on with a Giorgio Moroder style bassline.
