TAILGUNNER + THIRST12th October 2000Thirst have been described as Nirvana meet Placebo although you can hear some Dark Star influences tucked away in there. Thirst are Christopher James Perrin (Lead Vocals/Guitar/Song Writer), Mark James Denny (Drummer), Steven William Marsh (Bass) and Richard Ian Tamblyn (Guitarist/Backing Vox). Thirst recently recorded their debut album From Mouth To Skin at Abbey Road Studios, which is due for release in January 2001. They have been busy this last year recording new material for their American record label and have already been on tour supporting bands like Muse, Bush, My Vitriol, Llama Farmers and Therapy. Thirst took to the stage and exploded into a fusion of catchy guitar riffs, powerful drum beats, meaty basslines and some emotionally driven vocals causing sonic mayhem throughout the place. The tunes were very catchy and the sort of music you can listen to over and over. They show a great consistency and aura of enlightment in their work, unlike some grungy orientated bands that tend to live in the darkness of the shadows. Manchester lads Tailgunner were the main entertainment for the night. There were lots of Oasis fans out for this one due to the frontman being the sole producer of Oasis's debut hit album Definitely Maybe. Tailgunner didn't go down as well as I had expected. They performed a good tight set with lots of interesting guitar riffs, mixed into a melodic chase but I think because they had been associated with Oasis a lot of people thought they were trying to be a little too much like them. All in all the night was very atmospheric with good spirit everywhere, and it was nice to meet a band with as much enthusiasm as Thirst. We tried to grab an interview with Tailgunner but they declined, hence the lack of information on the band, and their website is currently under construction so we do apologise. Jed, GIMPmag. |
