THE COOPER TEMPLE CLAUSE + SUNSET SOUND + EMERY

23rd August 2001
Emery:

Things are working well for Emery at present. They've been together for about four years, but have gigged mainly outside of Peterborough for the last year or so, which is why they're not so well known locally. But they are back and hoping to make it big. They performed brilliantly on Thursday. The drums and bass lead the band in a tight, steady performance full of enthusiasm. Their sound seemed to mix heavy with mellow, if that's possible! The style seemed to bring to mind Muse or Radiohead. Scott has a great range to his voice which he uses well in his performance. The set was energetic and it was obvious they were enjoying themselves. Altogether a great performance.

Sunset Sound:

This was a fantastic support group from Reading. Their vocals somehow sounded Charlatans style, but they were backed by the tuneful, heavy guitars of Spineshank - what a combination! Most of their songs were very energetic and lively - you just couldn't stop your feet moving, if not the rest of your limbs! Behind the raw but tuneful live instrument sound, a synth was occasionally mixed, giving a nice variation and depth.

TCTC Thumb NailThe Cooper Temple Clause:

The headliners from Reading. CWNN was their warm up for their performance at the Reading Festival, and their performance certainly showed their way to bigger things. We couldn't really decide on how to describe their sound - kind of a mix of punk, indie rock and electronica. If you can imagine Creed crossed with the Chemical Brothers, with Foo Fighters and Charlatans vocal style you might be somewhere near. They have a very distinctive sound which comes from their use of synths. It's a hardcore rock sound mixed with Chemical Brothers style electronic noises. You have to hear it to get the real picture! They really enjoyed their performance which always comes across well and at the same time their presentation was very professional. The right ingredients to make it big - keep your eyes open for them in the top 40!
