TWIST + LITTLE NIKITA + CHEKIRA20th September 2001A very impressive set from a band who've been together for 18 months. A great mixture of "dark English rock and Southern Californian punk" as described by Andy. He refrained from listing Green Day as one of the band's influences but it was quite obvious after a couple of songs that this was the style (but fused with some other interesting items). Tracks that stood out to me were "Mary Poppins" and a wicked punk version of Abba's "Super Trouper"! They'll have a new CD out in a month's time, Pretending to be Bob Holness, a 3 track demo of their fine art. A UK tour will follow in November. A very energetic set, well performed and nice and tight. Little Nikita A temporary line up including members of Fox Force Five and Chekira. As usual a very lively set with Phil having loads of fun and bouncing around a lot. Overall an excellent performance, especially from a temporary line up. Twist We need more girlie rock bands! Four gorgeous Brummie girls aged between 19 and 21. Mmmmmmmm, oh and Emma (singer) has a really cute way of saying "Thank You". Anyway, the music...Heavy, but tuneful, a weird cross between Alanis Morrisette, The Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Hole amongst others. Songs included "14", the title track from their new EP, as well as "Happy Where You Are", an incredibly powerful song - I was getting quite frightened by Emma's screaming! "Radio" was another new track, also very loud and powerful. The new EP, entitled 14, will be available from October 1st on 1970 Recordings. Five tracks including two live acoustic numbers. One to look out for as only limited quantities will be available. Altogether a very tight and loud set, the girls didn't seem entirely comfortable on stage, probably due to one of them having to be rushed to hospital a short while before the set! Top marks for returning to play the gig though. Very powerful music, I half expected some serious instrument trashing at the end of the performance, but alas, they were very well behaved...
